Mr. Baldwin focuses on the firm’s trial cases in both civil and criminal courts. He represents a variety of individuals and corporations in commercial, criminal, insurance, malpractice, and probate disputes in all Florida state and federal courts. He also assists the firm’s clients in personal injury, medical malpractice and wrongful death matters. Before beginning his civil practice, Matthew was a Felony Division Chief at the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, where he served for six years. His experience, unflinching drive for justice, and tireless work ethic are an asset to the firm.
Mr. Baldwin has represented clients in complex multimillion-dollar insurance coverage and bad faith litigation, with industry-specific impact in insurance policy rescission cases and one of the few institutional punitive damages bad faith cases in South Florida. He has represented individual policyholders, bankruptcy trustees, and an SEC Receiver, and he has experience successfully litigating various types of insurance policies, including: property, life, primary and umbrella CGL, primary and excess commercial crime, directors and officers, errors and omissions, and professional liability.
Mr. Baldwin served as an Assistant State Attorney in Miami-Dade County for over six years. As a criminal prosecutor, Mr. Baldwin prosecuted a wide variety of crimes before specializing in homicides as a Felony Division Chief. He has substantial jury trial experience, completing approximately 40 criminal trials (including 10 homicide cases) to jury verdict, and, since he has become a civil practitioner, 15 civil trials to jury verdict. He was lead trial counsel in several homicide cases featured in the national media, including cases profiled on CourtTV, The First 48, Dateline, and 48 Hours Mystery. He has also been a guest commentator in several criminal investigation documentaries on the ID channel and quoted in The Miami Herald.
